Given the important role of Engineering and Applied Studies in in Iran and the world and the progress of this field in the country specifically after the revolution, the Engineering and Applied Studies group is one of the successful ones in the INSF which was established in 2005. Having specified the priorities of research in INSF according to higher order documents and needs of the country, this group evaluates research projects in Engineering and Applied Studies. The members of this group include distinguished scientists and university faculty in fields such as: Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Computer Engineering. 


INSF Research Priorities in this field include:


-Using Aerospace Engineering for effective defense purposes

-Designing a database in Aerospace Engineering and creating a base for propelling, guiding, and controlling aerospace systems

-Improving Satellite stations and designing a national Geographic Information System

-Localizing aerospace products and trying to remove the country’s dependence through finding latest technologies

-The design and production of airliners with a capacity of 50 to 200 passengers in order to reach a reasonable share in the international market

-Designing and building light and semi-light helicopters for educational, transportation, and utility purposes

-Designing and building educational and entertainment superlight aircrafts

-Designing and building jet propellers (Turbo fans) from mini jets and motors with a thrust of more than 50 tons

-Technology for sending human beings to space

-Designing and building miniaturized satellites and satellite bringers with the capacity of bringing more than 700 tons

Construction and transportation Engineering

-New technologies in the mass construction

-The application of Nano-technology in Construction Engineering

-Mechanisms for reducing energy consumption and the application of renewable energies

-Sustainable development in the construction industry

-Climate change and its role in environmental changes and water resources

-Waste management and their use in the construction resources

-The use of new methods in the analysis, design, and appropriate management of constructions 

-The prediction of earthquakes

-Immunizing constructions, roads, and water resources of the country in order to tackle unpredictable disasters

-The application of new methods in traffic and transportation management and safety of roads

-Quantitative and qualitative studies in water security


-Macro engineering in energy consumption systems

-Integrated management of oil and gas resources

-Transforming, recycling, and transferring natural gas and oil

-Reducing the different kinds of greenhouse gases and other pollutants

-The distributed production, sustainability increase, and creation of smart systems in the electricity distribution networks

-Increasing the potential of energy transformation processes in the production, transformation, and final consumption

Information technology

-The development of communication networks

-The development of secure and consistent national information networks with an appropriate lane width

-The latest defense software

-The development of information technology and envisioning the effects of development in information technology at national and international levels

-The development of new and advanced techniques in electronic business

-The development of information and communication technology education and electronic learning

-Modification in the information area in aspects such as the content, perspective, software and hardware, and electronic systems (at the level of government and businesses)

-Quantitative and qualitative development of national information network and definition of different levels and kinds of service

Technologies for production engineering

-Localizing the technologies for designing and building automobiles

-Technologies for hybrid and electronic automobiles

-The development of knowledge and technology of the platforms for modern automobiles

-The development of knowledge for designing and building machines and facilities according to the priorities of the country’ industry

-The improvement of mine technology

-The improvement of technology for agricultural industries

-The development of knowledge for designing and building machines and instruments for railway industry

-Designing, building, and modifying automobile engines in order to reduce the energy consumption and pollution

-Studies relevant to the latest production, automation, robotic, mechatronics, new and smart materials technologies

-Studies relevant to miniature production technologies and miniature electro-mechanic systems

-Micro-electronics, sensors, and Nano and micro activators

-Laser, photonic, chemical sensors, semi-conductors, metal alloys, and magnetic materials
